I'm so glad you're here.

The relationship between a therapist & client is essential key to good therapy. It’s important you feel comfortable & connected to your therapist. This is why I offer a free 15-minute phone consultation before we officially start our sessions. Hopefully the information I've included here gives you a good preview of who I am and how I show up in this work so you can make an informed decision on your care.

Why I Became a Therapist:

Long before I was a therapist, I was a client first. I began therapy in college, and it was like coming up for fresh air. I felt seen, heard, known, supported and safe to share the deepest parts of myself. I looked forward to our sessions and the connections I would make there. I committed myself to a journey of self-discovery, healing, and a psychology major that laid the foundation for the work I offer today. I know from my own experiences in therapy, that healing requires commitment, vulnerability and courage. Some of my lived experiences include family of origin issues, anxiety, and postpartum depression.

How I got here:

After getting a degree in psychology, I spent a little over a decade working in human services providing home based therapeutic services, community support to at risk youth and families, in-patient addiction counseling and recruiting foster families where I saw firsthand the the power of connection to support growth and healing. I spent the next decade of my life building my professional skills (see my credentials below) and creating a family which stretched me in the best of ways. While learning about healthy attachment in grad school, I was actively working to create secure attachment within myself and with my daughters. Through this parallel process I became devoted to understanding how early childhood experiences shape who we become, what we believe and how we connect with the world around us.

I received my Master of Holistic Counseling as well as a Certificate in Advanced Graduate Study in Holistic Mental Health Counseling and a Certificate I'm the Expressive and Creative Arts from CACREP-accredited counseling program at Salve Regina University. I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor Associate (LMHC-Associate) in RI under the supervision of Kate Robinson, LICSW, RYT-200, CCTP.

My mission in life is to support intergenerational healing in my home and in yours. It's the greatest honor of my life to support others to live more fully and freely as who they really are. I blend holistic counseling, deep space holding, somatic healing, the expressive arts and energy medicine bridging modern science and ancient wisdom using a trauma informed approach. My core values are integrity, connection, transparency, service, self-expression, creativity and simplicity which are reflected on the way I show up in this work and how I live my life outside of the therapy room.

Outside the Therapy Room:

I live in rural RI with my husband, two daughters, two dogs and three cats. An ideal day for me starts with sleeping in, a slow flow morning with a hot cup of coffee, a hike through the woods, cooking a yummy meal with some good tunes, and connecting with family and friends. I absolutely love to dance which is where I feel most free and most me. I collect books (and have read most of them). I feel most fulfilled when I am engaged in practices that connect me to myself, those I love, nature and the world around me.

"Shaelyn is the person you need in your life to help you jump into your vision and show up in the world exactly how you were destined to be. Shaelyn has the refreshing ability to identify where our pain and our hurt lives and steals our power. She is so warm and nurturing it allows you to feel safe.
