Individual Counseling

I am ready to welcome you with open arms into a collaborative, therapeutic relationship. I currently provide individual, holistic counseling in RI with either an in person or virtual option to accommodate your preference and needs.

Holistic Counseling integrates a mind-body approach to mental health and wellness acknowledging the internal and external factors that contribute to your overall state of health, wellness, and capacity to connect with others.

An Individualized Approach

Change takes time. Together we'll create a plan and path forward that honors your needs and moves at a pace that supports your slow and steady growth.

Grounding & Resourcing

Grounding refers to skills and techniques that support you to self-soothe when distressed. I am passionate about sharing resources, skills, and techniques that support your growth and healing

Process and Practice

Growth and healing begin in the therapy room and requires practice out in your daily life when you advocate for your needs, communicate vulnerably, set a boundary, and/or make self-honoring decisions.

01

An Individualized Approach to Healing

You will be asked to complete a comprehensive intake interview prior to our first session which lets me know more about you, your history, your health, your symptoms, your needs and your goals. During your first session we will review your intake paperwork and get to know one another. Our first several sessions will be focused on building our relationship, getting to know you more deeply, and identifying your needs and goals in therapy. All of this will help us to chart a path forward that attends to your needs and allows me to offer an individualized approach to you.

02

Grounding & Resourcing

Once we've mutually agreed a path forward that identifies your goals and needs, we'll begin to assess your current support system which includes internal coping strategies and external supports. Here I will also introduce you to new coping skills to help practice mindfulness, regulate through feeling, increase somatic awareness and engage in a practice of compassionate self-study. I will help you slowly build more support into your life so you feel more grounded, secure and strong to begin greater depth work. This includes any trauma processing, inner child healing or somatic healing.

03

Process and Practice

At this stage on our work together, we will explore the limiting beliefs and patterns contributing to your current experience of life. In sessions you will be guided to practice new and different strategies for befriending your body, responding to your emotion, communicating vulnerably, setting boundaries and making self-honoring decisions. From here you will feel more empowered to practice these things outside of the therapy room.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a session like?

Sessions together are collaborative. We generally start by checking in on your energy arriving to the session, talk about how your week has been, and then explore whatever area of your life you choose you want to work on in that specific session. If you aren’t sure, I can direct the topic of the session. We explore your thoughts and feelings, resource you with skills, and close with a reflection of the session. My approach is holistic and eclectic. Occasionally, I may offer suggestions for ways you can support your growth and healing outside of sessions. Please see my section on Somatic Healing for more on what sessions can look like.

How long will I need to attend sessions?

This varies widely depending on the presenting issue and the person. Sessions have ranged from months to years. Ideally, we would work together for at least a full calendar year but it is really up to you and what your needs are. I see both short term and long term clients. Most of my clients stay for quite a while once they begin to see the benefit that therapy adds to their life and relationships.

What kinds of issues do you work with?

Here is list of common issues I work with: anxiety, depression, ADHD, self-esteem, eating disorder, sleep/insomnia, self-care, growth and development in adulthood, relationship issues, spirituality, grief and loss, life transitions, anger management, men’s/women’s issues/gender roles, overwhelm/stress, family of origin issues and pregnancy/postpartum and parenting.

What are the next steps?

The next step is to schedule a free 15-minute consultation cal to discuss your needs and out suitability to work together. During this call, you will have the opportunity to give me a brief summary of your current concerns. I will answer any questions you have about the process of therapy or about myself and the way that I work. We will discuss logistics including cost, appointment frequency, my practice policies and scheduling.
